INDEPENDENCE, KY (FOX19) - The American Legion Moon Brothers Post 275 will sponsor their annual Memorial Day Parade in cooperation with the City of Independence on May 28th, starting at 10:30 a.m.
The parade route will start at Delaware Crossing and go north on KY 17, passing cemeteries at Independence and St. Cecilia Church then end in front of the courthouse in downtown Independence. ?This parade is to celebrate the honor all the service members who have passed away. ?A ceremony will salute the 510 plus Veterans from Northern Kentucky who have passed away just since May 2011, honoring them with prayers, and gun and bugle salutes. ?A post-parade oratory will be presented by Christi Jefferds, Piner Elementary School Principal and US Army Veteran, to end the formal celebration.
Participation in the parade is open. In respect of the purpose of the parade, the post asks that ideas for floats, groups and vehicles reflect that of honor and courtesy to our fallen heroes and their families. ?They also ask participants to keep children?s safety in mind and think twice before throwing candy, and to refrain from campaigning and raffling, instead filling the air with patriotic themes, music and support of our troops.
For additional information on the parade and participation, questions can be sent to American Legion Moon Bros Post Commander Wayne R. Lohmoeller by calling the post at 859-429-0750 or emailing moonbrothers275@gmail.com.
