The Finance Department

Pew?s Finance department is comprised of two primary areas, Institutional Finance and Department Finance.
Institutional Finance is comprised of the following units: institutional procurement, payment and agenda services; institutional accounting and payroll services; institutional budgeting, reporting and analytics; and treasury and
financial services. Department Finance is comprised of the following units: program finance services (including contract policy compliance); operations finance; operations contract management services; Pew grants administration
services; and donation accounting services.
Position Overview
Gifts represent a growing and vital component of Pew?s revenue base and programmatic goals and objectives.
The stewardship and use of these funds in accordance with donor wishes and applicable federal laws, IRS guidelines, generally accepted accounting principles and Pew?s policies is important not only to extract the most value
from each dollar, but to instill public trust and continued giving from a broad range of donors.
The Specialist, Donation Accounting Services position reports to and supports the Donation Accounting
Services Manager, Department Finance; works closely and collaboratively with the Philanthropic Partnership Group; and is based in Washington, DC.
This position will work directly with the Philanthropic Partnership Group program area?s program and embedded operations staff to create and monitor the department, program and donor budgets; provide accurate and timely
financial information; ensure compliance with adopted policies and procedures and donor reporting requirements; and provide a high level of customer service.
This position is responsible for working in collaboration with Philanthropic Partnership Group and Institutional
Finance, the gift accounting, pledge receivable monitoring, cash processing, tax receipt issuance, donor account reconciliations, audit support, gift reporting and analytics for all charitable gifts received by Pew consistent
with donors? wishes, including restricted, unrestricted, conditional and unconditional cash and non-cash gifts.
This position?s internal customers include: Philanthropic Partnership Group; Institutional Finance?s Accounting
and Treasury units; Department Finance?s Program Finance teams; and each of Pew?s program departments, including Pew Environmental Group, Pew Center on the States, Pew Health Group, and Philadelphia Program. This position will also interact with outside donors and their financial and legal advisors, as required from time to time, in order to perform the gift accounting and administration responsibilities described herein.
In collaboration with the Philanthropic Partnership Group, this position is also responsible for establishing within Pew a center of excellence in gift accounting and administration; and convening and facilitating regularly scheduled meetings
with internal customers (i) ensuring a consistent understanding of Pew?s gift-related policies and procedures; (ii) providing a forum to address gift-related and PeopleSoft-related issues and concerns; and (iii) promoting
employee professional development by sharing knowledge about gift accounting and administration and PeopleSoft best practices and leading-edge thinking.
The ideal candidate will (i) have earned a bachelor?s degree in accounting or equivalent (ii) possess five years of demonstrated experience in gift accounting and administration for universities, non-profits and/or foundations (iii) be detail oriented; (iv) have strong customer service skills; (v) possess excellent organization and communication skills; (vi) work well in a team environment; (vii) possess strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills; (viii) be a self-started capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment; (ix) possess hands-on experience performing gift
accounting and administration in a leading donor management and accounting system such as Oracle, PeopleSoft, Blackbaud or comparable system; and (x) enjoy learning about Pew?s business as it grows and applying this knowledge to process improvement.
